Aims: To provide delegates with the opportunity to examine how meetings work and the skills required for both participants and facilitators.
 
Objectives: At the end of the course, delegates will be
able to:

  • Explain how to structure a meeting and describe the roles of participants in meetings
  • Identify key behaviours' for ensuring a meeting has a successful outcome
  • Demonstrate how to facilitate a meeting effectively.

  • Formal and informal meetings; what do different types of meetings have in common?; why meetings often fail
  • Structure of Meetings
  • Participant roles; using an agenda; documenting meetings
  • Ensuring Successful Meetings
  • Effective participation skills; questioning; listening; putting your point across
  • Facilitation Skills
  • Keeping the meeting on track; preventing time-wasting; encouraging participation.
 
Method: Delegates will receive reference material. The emphasis will be on enhanced knowledge, understanding and skills development gained through discussion, exchange of views and practical exercises.
